OCA Ethnic School Registration

Introduction to the Chinese School of the OCASA.

The Chinese School of the OCASA was established in 1980. It is a legally registered Chinese school with the Australian Ethnic Education Commission. Through the hard work, dedication and persistence of our predecessors, successive OCASA committees and the Chinese community, the school has grown from nothing to something, from small to large. It is the product of the great work of several generations of Chinese Australians.

The school has one main campus and one branch campus. The main campus is located at 110 Crittenden Road, Findon. The branch campus is located at Burnside Community Centre, corner of Portrush Road and Greenhill Road, Tusmore.

Like government schools, the school year is divided into two learning stages and four terms. The first and second terms make up the first half of the school year. The third and fourth terms make up the second half of the school year. Classes start on the first weekend of each term.

At the Findon campus classes are held on every Saturday. There are morning and afternoon classes.

Morning classes are from 10.00am – 12.30pm.

Afternoon classes are from 1.15pm – 3.45pm.

There are teachers on duty during the break between classes.

At the Burnside campus classes are held on every Sunday.

There are 2 classes, the early class and the later class.

The early classes are from 1.00 pm – 3.00pm.

The later classes are from 3.30pm – 5.30pm.

Through systematic learning, students master the course content step by step, from pinyin, characters, words, sentences to compositions, laying a solid foundation for children to communicate in Chinese in the future.

In order to stimulate children’s interest in learning Chinese, each class has a learning corner where children can post their own compositions and paintings on a blackboard.

At the end of each year, children will also receive awards such as full attendance awards, top three awards, etc.

The school also arranges activities such as Children’s Day, holiday interest classes and Little Writer Awards. These events promote a positive environment for children to learn Chinese, learn more about their ancestral culture, enhance their social awareness of Australia’s multicultural society, and consolidate their knowledge of Chinese society.

The school is also arranging a students’ “Study Tour China” project during school holidays, so that children can experience the beauty and charm of traditional and modern Chinese culture, stimulating their passion for learning Chinese language and culture.

Also, we are about to form a Children’s Choir, which will commence training soon. We hope that this will provide a cultural foundation for Chinese as a second language and also enable the children to experience the beauty of Chinese art in music and melody.

Chinese characters are the root of the Chinese nation. Teaching Chinese and promoting traditional Chinese culture is the responsibility of every one of us. The school aims to work together with others in the Chinese community to cultivate a new generation of honest, kind and grateful children of Chinese descent!
